TL;DR
A patient with a life-threatening vascular-bronchial fistula and massive hemoptysis was successfully treated through a multidisciplinary team effort.
Contribution
Highlights the critical role of multidisciplinary collaboration in managing rare and severe vascular-bronchial fistulas.
Findings
Timely airway clearance by a bronchoscopy physician was crucial for patient survival.
Emergency thoracotomy by a thoracic surgeon effectively controlled the bleeding.
Multidisciplinary teamwork significantly improved outcomes in this critical case.
Abstract
The case reported in this paper is a vascular‐bronchial fistula associated with fatal massive hemoptysis. The patient was rescued successfully by experts from a multidisciplinary team. The bronchoscopy physician cleared the accumulated blood in the airway timely and maintained the airway patency, and the anesthesiologist established artificial ventilation quickly; eventually, the thoracic surgeon performed an emergency thoracotomy to control the bleeding. It reflected the significance of multidisciplinary collaborative treatment. The case reported in this paper is a vascular‐bronchial fistula associated with fatal massive hemoptysis.
