TL;DR
This paper introduces the Plasma Cascade Instability, a new micro-bunching phenomenon in charged particle beams, supported by theoretical analysis, simulations, and experimental observations.
Contribution
It presents the first comprehensive study of the Plasma Cascade Instability, combining theory, simulations, and experiments to characterize this new micro-bunching effect.
Findings
Identification of the Plasma Cascade Instability in charged particle beams
Theoretical framework describing the instability dynamics
Experimental validation of the instability occurrence
Abstract
In this letter we describe a new micro-bunching instability occurring in charged particle beams propagating along a straight trajectory: based on the dynamics we named it a Plasma Cascade Instability.
