Canonical framings for 3-manifolds
Rob Kirby, Paul Melvin

TL;DR
This paper introduces canonical and stable framings for the tangent bundle of spin 3-manifolds, providing methods for their construction and comparison, with illustrative examples.
Contribution
It presents a systematic approach to defining and comparing canonical framings on spin 3-manifolds, expanding understanding of their geometric structures.
Findings
Canonical framings are explicitly constructed for various examples.
Methods for comparing different framings are developed.
The framework enhances understanding of tangent bundle structures in spin 3-manifolds.
Abstract
Canonical framings and stable framings for the tangent bundle of a spin 3-manifold are introduced, and illustrated by a number of familiar examples. Methods for constructing canonical framings, and for comparing them with other naturally defined framings, are discussed.
