The Dirac Monopole and Differential Characters
Nikos Kalogeropoulos

TL;DR
This paper explores the mathematical description of the Dirac monopole through differential characters, clarifying the role of the Dirac string and its relation to Deligne cohomology, advancing the theoretical understanding of monopoles.
Contribution
It introduces a novel framework using Cheeger-Simons differential characters to model the Dirac monopole and connects it with Deligne cohomology, providing new insights into their mathematical structure.
Findings
Differential characters effectively describe the Dirac monopole.
The role of the Dirac string is clarified within this framework.
Connections between differential characters and Deligne cohomology are established.
Abstract
We describe the Dirac monopole using the Cheeger-Simons differential characters. We comment on the r\^{o}le of the Dirac string and on the connection with Deligne cohomology.
