Anomalous probability of large amplitudes in wave turbulence
Yeontaek Choi, Yuri V. Lvov, Sergey Nazarenko, Boris Pokorni

TL;DR
This paper derives a time evolution equation for the PDF in weakly interacting wave systems, revealing that steady states can exhibit strong intermittency, which has implications for understanding turbulence phenomena.
Contribution
It introduces a new PDF evolution equation for wave turbulence systems, highlighting the potential for steady states to display strong intermittency, a novel insight in the field.
Findings
Steady states in wave turbulence can be strongly intermittent.
Derived a new evolution equation for the probability distribution function.
Identified conditions under which large amplitude events become more probable.
Abstract
Time evolution equation for the Probability Distribution Function (PDF) is derived for system of weakly interacting waves. It is shown that a steady state for such system may correspond to strong intermittency.
