TL;DR
This paper introduces a generalized concept of calibrations where the calibration form is not necessarily closed, enabling the analysis of supersymmetric p-brane solitons in complex backgrounds such as AdS.
Contribution
It extends the theory of calibrations to non-closed forms, providing new tools for studying supersymmetric brane solutions in string and M-theory backgrounds.
Findings
Generalized calibrations can describe non-closed forms for supersymmetric branes.
Application to M5-branes in AdS backgrounds demonstrates the framework's utility.
New classes of supersymmetric solitons are identified using this approach.
Abstract
We present a generalization of calibrations in which the calibration form is not closed. We use this to examine a class of supersymmetric p-brane worldvolume solitons. As an example we consider M5-brane worldvolume solitons in an AdS background.
