TL;DR
This paper proposes a generalization of particle-wave duality to strings and branes, called brane-wave duality, exploring its implications for relativistic wave equations and electromagnetic interactions.
Contribution
It introduces the concept of brane-wave duality, extending quantum mechanical duality to higher-dimensional objects like strings and branes, and discusses related electromagnetic interactions.
Findings
All integrable free field theories are linked to Lagrangians that are divergences on the solution space.
The conjecture extends particle-wave duality to relativistic strings and branes.
Electromagnetic interactions are analyzed within the brane-wave duality framework.
Abstract
The quantum mechanical transition between a free particle Lagrangian and the Klein Gordon field description of a free particle (particle wave duality) is conjectured to extend to an analogous construction of relativistically invariant wave equations associated with strings and branes, which we propose to call brane-wave duality. Electromagnetic interactions in the two systems are discussed. It is emphasised that all integrable free field theories, including those of Dirac-Born-Infeld type, are associated with Lagrangians equivalent to divergences on the space of solutions of the equations of motion.
