Sergei Gukov, Mukund Rangamani, and Edward Witten

TL;DR
This paper tests the AdS/CFT correspondence for a specific orbifold model by analyzing wrapped branes and their gauge theory interpretations, revealing new aspects of S-duality.
Contribution
It provides a detailed analysis of wrapped branes in the 5/3 orbifold and uncovers novel S-duality features necessary for matching string theory with gauge theory.
Findings
Wrapped branes correspond to baryons, dibaryons, and strings with monodromy.
Matching brane analysis with gauge theory requires new insights into S-duality.
The work supports the AdS/CFT conjecture in orbifold models.
Abstract
A generalization of the Maldacena conjecture asserts that Type IIB string theory on is equivalent to a certain supersymmetric gauge theory with bifundamental matter. To test this assertion, we analyze the wrapped branes on and their interpretation in terms of gauge theory. The wrapped branes are interpreted in some cases as baryons or dibaryons of the gauge theory and in other cases as strings around which there is a global monodromy. In order to successfully match the brane analysis with field theory, we must uncover some aspects of -duality which are novel even in the case of four-dimensional free field theory.
