David J. Gross, Hirosi Ooguri

TL;DR
This paper investigates large N gauge theories using string theory dualities, providing evidence that their strong coupling behavior aligns with theoretical expectations and supporting the validity of the dualities.
Contribution
It offers new consistency checks for gauge/string dualities in large N gauge theories, including supersymmetric and nonsupersymmetric cases.
Findings
Strong coupling behavior matches qualitative expectations
Nontrivial consistency checks support duality validity
Evidence for duality applicability to various gauge theories
Abstract
In this paper we explore some of the features of large N supersymmetric and nonsupersymmetric gauge theories using Maldacena's duality conjectures. We shall show that the resulting strong coupling behavior of the gauge theories is consistent with our qualitative expectations of these theories. Some of these consistency checks are highly nontrivial and give additional evidence for the validity of the proposed dualities.
