TL;DR
This paper explores gravitational models inspired by non-linear electrodynamics, specifically Born-Infeld-Einstein actions, and develops conformally invariant versions using Weyl scalars.
Contribution
It introduces explicit Born-Infeld-Einstein models satisfying physical criteria and formulates conformally invariant variants through a novel compensating scalar approach.
Findings
Explicit Born-Infeld-Einstein models satisfying physical requirements
Development of conformally invariant versions using Weyl scalars
Framework for gravitational avatars of non-linear electrodynamics
Abstract
We present some obvious physical requirements on gravitational avatars of non-linear electrodynamics and illustrate them with explicit determinantal Born-Infeld-Einstein models. A related procedure, using compensating Weyl scalars, permits us to formulate conformally invariant versions of these systems as well.
