Shamit Kachru, Albrecht Klemm, Yaron Oz

TL;DR
This paper constructs dual descriptions of CHL string compactifications in M-theory and Type IIA frameworks, revealing Calabi-Yau orbifolds with RR backgrounds as their geometric counterparts.
Contribution
It introduces explicit Calabi-Yau orbifold duals for 9d CHL string compactifications in 5d and 4d, expanding the understanding of string dualities.
Findings
Identification of M-theory and Type IIA duals for CHL strings
Construction of Calabi-Yau orbifolds with RR backgrounds
Extension of duality framework to lower dimensions
Abstract
We find M-theory (Type IIA) duals for compactifications of the 9d CHL string to 5d (4d) on K3 (K3 x S^1). The IIA duals are Calabi-Yau orbifolds with nontrivial RR U(1) backgrounds turned on.
