Gauge fields and interactions in matrix string theory
Thomas Wynter

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates that matrix string theory encompasses all N-sheeted cylinder coverings through gauge configurations, linking gauge backgrounds to string diagrams and Riemann surfaces in the large N limit.
Contribution
It reveals that all N-sheeted coverings are represented as gauge configurations in matrix string theory, connecting gauge backgrounds to string interactions on Riemann surfaces.
Findings
All N-sheeted coverings are contained in matrix string theory.
Large N limit yields type IIA conformal field theory on Riemann surfaces.
String diagram sum corresponds to gauge background sum.
Abstract
It is shown that all possible N sheeted coverings of the cylinder are contained in type IIA matrix string theory as non-trivial gauge field configurations. Using these gauge field configurations as backgrounds the large limit is shown to lead to the type IIA conformal field theory defined on the corresponding Riemann surfaces. The sum over string diagrams is identified as the sum over non-trivial gauge backgrounds of the SYM theory.
