Martin Schmaltz, Raman Sundrum (Boston University)

TL;DR
This paper explores Seiberg's N=1 supersymmetric QCD duality using M-theory, showing how magnetic dual configurations can be smoothly derived from electric ones through brane deformations.
Contribution
It provides a novel M-theory perspective on field theory duality, deriving magnetic dual configurations from electric ones via smooth brane deformations.
Findings
M-theory configurations for dual theories are smoothly connected.
Creation of D4-branes from NS5-branes is derived from M-theory.
The duality is realized through brane deformations in M-theory.
Abstract
We investigate Seiberg's N=1 field theory duality for four-dimensional supersymmetric QCD with the M-theory 5-brane. We find that the M-theory configuration for the magnetic dual theory arises via a smooth deformation of the M-theory configuration for the electric theory. The creation of Dirichlet 4-branes as Neveu-Schwarz 5-branes are passed through each other in Type IIA string theory is given a nice derivation from M-theory.
