D-Instantons in Non-Critical Open String Theory
Rui Neves

TL;DR
This paper investigates non-perturbative effects in non-critical string theory, identifying D-instantons as dynamical objects and analyzing their impact on theory consistency and size.
Contribution
It demonstrates the order of non-perturbative effects and characterizes non-critical D-instantons as dynamical entities exchanging closed string states.
Findings
Non-perturbative effects are of order e^{-O(1/β_st)}.
Non-critical D-instantons exchange closed string states.
Constraints on theory space from non-perturbative effects.
Abstract
We show that the strength of the leading non-perturbative effects in non-critical string theory is of the order . We show how this restricts the space of consistent theories. We also identify non-critical one dimensional D-instantons as dynamical objects which exchange closed string states and calculate the order of their size.
