Normal Mode Spectrum of the Deuteron in the Skyrme Model
C. Barnes, W. K. Baskerville, N. Turok

TL;DR
This paper computes the vibrational mode spectrum of the deuteron within the Skyrme model, revealing bound and scattering modes that relate to skyrmion interactions and showing similarities to multiskyrmion spectra.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed analysis of the deuteron’s normal modes in the Skyrme model, including symmetry classifications and mode energies.
Findings
Identified a bound doublet mode below the pion mass.
Found a singlet 'breather' mode and a doublet above the pion mass.
Spectrum pattern is similar to that of the B=4 multiskyrmion.
Abstract
The normal mode spectrum of the deuteron in the Skyrme model is computed. We find a bound doublet mode below the pion mass, which can be related to the well-known scattering of two skyrmions. We also find a singlet `breather' mode and another doublet above the pion mass. The qualitative pattern of the spectrum is similar to that recently found for the B=4 multiskyrmion. The symmetries of all the vibrational modes are presented.
