R. Dijkgraaf, E. Verlinde, H. Verlinde

TL;DR
This paper derives the world-volume theory, entropy, and background geometry of NS IIA fivebrane black holes and strings using matrix theory, providing a conformal field theory description of strings in these geometries.
Contribution
It introduces a novel matrix theory framework for describing NS IIA fivebrane black holes and strings, including their entropy and effective field theory.
Findings
Derived the world-volume theory for these black objects.
Calculated the (non)-extremal entropy.
Established a CFT description of strings in black hole backgrounds.
Abstract
We derive the world-volume theory, the (non)-extremal entropy and background geometry of black holes and black strings constructed out of the NS IIA fivebrane within the framework of matrix theory. The CFT description of strings propagating in the black hole geometry arises as an effective field theory.
