TL;DR
This paper explores the construction of open membranes within the matrix model of M theory, highlighting the necessity of boundary terms and their realization in systems involving five-branes and D0-branes.
Contribution
It introduces a method to construct open membranes in matrix theory using boundary terms, expanding the understanding of membrane dynamics in M theory.
Findings
Open membranes can be constructed with specific boundary terms.
Boundary terms are realizable in systems with five-branes and D0-branes.
The approach provides a new way to study membrane interactions in matrix models.
Abstract
We discuss how to construct open membranes in the recently proposed matrix model of M theory. In order to sustain an open membrane, two boundary terms are needed in the construction. These boundary terms are available in the system of the longitudinal five-branes and D0-branes.
