TL;DR
This paper computes the potential between two D-instantons in superstring theory, revealing its behavior at different separations and resolving singularities through internal coordinates.
Contribution
It provides an explicit calculation of the D-instanton interaction potential using a reduction of super Yang-Mills theory, highlighting the role of internal coordinates in singularity resolution.
Findings
Potential vanishes at large separations
Significant potential at Planck-scale separations
Singularity at zero separation resolved by internal coordinates
Abstract
The potential between two separated D-instantons at fixed (super) space-time points is obtained by a simple explicit integration over the `massive' variables of the zero-dimensional reduction of ten-dimensional U(2) super Yang-Mills theory. This potential vanishes for asymptotically large separations, becoming significant at separations of around the ten-dimensional Planck scale with a singularity at the origin, which is resolved by the extra `massless' internal Yang-Mills super-coordinates.
