A Comment on BPS States in F-theory in 8 Dimensions
A. Johansen

TL;DR
This paper investigates BPS states and gauge symmetry enhancements in F-theory on K3, revealing stable open string configurations and recovering known gauge groups through non-perturbative methods.
Contribution
It provides a new perspective on gauge symmetry enhancements by analyzing open string configurations connecting 7-branes in F-theory on K3.
Findings
Identification of open string configurations representing BPS states.
Recovery of Dn and En gauge groups from singularity analysis.
Examples of non-perturbative realizations of An gauge groups.
Abstract
We study some aspects of enhanced gauge symmetries in F-theory compactified on K3. We find open string configurations connecting various 7-branes which represent stable BPS states. In this approach we recover and gauge groups previously found from an analysis of sigularities of the moduli space of elliptically fibered K3 manifolds as well as examples of non-perturbative realizations of groups.
