A Note on Orientifolds and F-theory
Atish Dabholkar, Jaemo Park

TL;DR
This paper constructs and analyzes specific orientifold models of Type-IIB string theory, exploring their relation to F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau orbifolds with particular Hodge numbers, and discusses their T-duals and gauge group structures.
Contribution
It introduces a new orientifold construction of Type-IIB on a K3 orbifold and relates it to F-theory on a Calabi-Yau orbifold with specific Hodge numbers, including T-dual analysis.
Findings
Constructed an orientifold of Type-IIB on K3 as a Z2 orbifold.
Established correspondence with F-theory on a Calabi-Yau orbifold with (51,3) Hodge numbers.
Discussed T-dual models with discrete torsion and gauge group properties.
Abstract
An orientifold of Type-IIB theory on a realized as a orbifold is constructed which corresponds to F-theory compactification on a Calabi-Yau orbifold with Hodge numbers . The T-dual of this model is analogous to an orbifold with discrete torsion in that the action of orientation reversal has an additional phase on the twisted sectors, and both 9-branes and 5-branes carry orthogonal gauge groups. An orientifold of the orbifold and its relation to F-theory is briefly discussed.
