TL;DR
This paper discusses how M-theory brane tension results can be derived from D-brane tension formulas and explores their implications for gravitational and gauge couplings in the effective action.
Contribution
It shows the connection between M-theory brane tensions and Polchinski's D-brane tension formula, providing insights into low-energy effective couplings.
Findings
M-theory brane tensions can be derived from D-brane tension formulas.
Polchinski's formula influences gravitational and gauge couplings.
Implications for quantum exactness of the effective action.
Abstract
We point out that some M-theory results for brane tension can be derived from Polchinski's formula for D-brane tension. We also argue that this formula determines gravitational and gauge couplings in the low energy but quantum exact effective action.
