TL;DR
This paper explores how promoting a subgroup of the Poincare group to a gauge symmetry in a WZWN model describes bosonic strings in curved spacetimes with axion fields and singularities, or in flat 3D space.
Contribution
It introduces a novel gauge symmetry approach in WZWN models to describe string dynamics in curved and flat spacetimes with axion fields.
Findings
String models in curved spacetime with singularities
Inclusion of axion fields in string backgrounds
Description of string dynamics in flat 3D space
Abstract
By promoting an invariant subgroup of to a gauge symmetry of a WZWN action, we obtain the description of a bosonic string moving either in a curved 4-dimensional space--time with an axion field and curvature singularities or in 3-dimensional Minkowski space--time.
