Dileep P. Jatkar, S. Kalyana Rama

TL;DR
This paper derives an F-theory framework from the Dirichlet 3-brane in type IIB string theory, revealing a twelve-dimensional target space with elliptic fibration and explicit SL(2,Z) symmetry, offering insights into M-theory self-duality.
Contribution
It presents a novel derivation of F-theory starting from the Dirichlet 3-brane action, providing a geometric interpretation of its symmetries and structure.
Findings
Twelve-dimensional target space with (11,1) signature.
Explicit geometric interpretation of SL(2,Z) symmetry.
Insights into the self-duality of M-theory.
Abstract
Starting from the type IIB Dirichlet 3-brane action, we obtain a Nambu-Goto action. It is interpreted as the world volume action of a fundamental 3-brane, and its target space theory as F-theory. The target space is twelve dimensional, with signature . It is an elliptic fibration over a ten dimensional base space. The symmetry of type IIB string has now an explicit geometric interpretation. Also, one gets a glimpse of the conjectured self-duality of M-theory.
