Ashoke Sen, Cumrun Vafa

TL;DR
This paper constructs dual pairs of type II string compactifications using U-duality and triality symmetries, providing a simple framework to test string duality conjectures across various supersymmetry levels.
Contribution
It introduces a novel method leveraging triality and the adiabatic argument to generate dual models with different supersymmetries, including models with perturbative non-abelian gauge symmetries.
Findings
Constructed dual pairs with N=2,4,6 supersymmetry in four dimensions.
Identified models with perturbative non-abelian gauge symmetry.
Developed a generalized adiabatic argument for N=1 models.
Abstract
Using a -duality symmetry of type II compactification on represented by triality action on the -duality group, and applying the adiabatic argument we construct dual pairs of type II compactifications in lower dimensions. The simplicity of this construction makes it an ideal set up for testing various conjectures about string dualities. In some of these models the type II string has a perturbative non-abelian gauge symmetry. Examples include models with supersymmetry in four dimensions. There are also self-dual (in the sense of exchange symmetric) and examples. A generalization of the adiabatic argument can be used to construct dual pairs of models with supersymmetry.
