A Background Independent Formulation of Noncritical String Theory
Nobuyuki Ishibashi, Hikaru Kawai (KEK Theory Group)

TL;DR
This paper develops a background independent string field theory formulation for rational noncritical string theories with central charge less than or equal to one, enabling inclusion of various theories as classical backgrounds.
Contribution
It introduces a modified string field Hamiltonian that allows a background independent description of noncritical string theories, expanding the theoretical framework.
Findings
Achieved a background independent formulation for $c \, \leq \, 1$ string theories.
Constructed string field theories that encompass various rational noncritical string theories.
Provided a unified approach to noncritical string backgrounds.
Abstract
Using the string field theory recently proposed by the authors and collaborators, we give a background independent formulation of rational noncritical string theories with . With a little modification of the string field Hamiltonians previously constructed, we obtain string field theories which include various rational noncritical string theories as classical backgrounds.
