TL;DR
This paper introduces a string theory model for 2D Yang-Mills theory that suppresses folds, leading to an empty flat-space theory, and extends naturally to higher dimensions, connecting to the concept of a rigid string with self-intersection.
Contribution
It presents a novel string model that suppresses folds in 2D YM theory and extends to higher dimensions, providing new insights into string behavior and connections to rigid strings.
Findings
Folds are suppressed in the proposed string model.
The model reduces to an empty theory in flat target spaces.
Extension to 3D and 4D suggests a connection to rigid strings with self-intersection at θ=π.
Abstract
We propose a string theory model which explains several features of two dimensional YM theory. Folds are suppressed. This in turn leads to the empty theory in flat target spaces. The Nambu-Goto action appears in the usual way. The model naturally splits into two (chiral) sectors: orientation preserving maps and orientation reversing maps. Moreover it has a straightforward extension to 3 and 4 dimensional space-times, which could be the rigid string with the self-intersection number at .
