Black and super p-branes in diverse dimensions
M. J. Duff, J. X. Lu

TL;DR
This paper develops a general framework for black and super p-brane solutions in arbitrary dimensions, unifying various known solutions and revealing dualities, including new self-dual superstring solutions in six dimensions.
Contribution
It introduces a universal Lagrangian for p-branes in any dimension, finds explicit solutions, and explores dualities and supersymmetry properties, extending previous specific models.
Findings
Derived a generic p-brane solution in arbitrary dimensions.
Connected known solutions like black branes and superstrings to a unified theory.
Discovered a new self-dual superstring in six dimensions.
Abstract
We present a generic Lagrangian, in arbitrary spacetime dimension , describing the interaction of a dilaton, a graviton and an antisymmetric tensor of arbitrary rank . For each ~and~, we find ``solitonic'' black -brane solutions where ~and~ . These solutions display a spacetime singularity surrounded by an event horizon, and are characterized by a mass per unit -volume, , and topological ``magnetic'' charge , obeying . In the extreme limit , the singularity and event horizon coalesce. For specific values of ~and~, these extreme solutions also exhibit supersymmetry and may be identified with previously classified heterotic, Type IIA and Type IIB super…
