Dilatonic Black Holes, Naked Singularities and Strings
P.H. Cox, B. Harms, Y. Leblanc

TL;DR
This paper explores the quantum properties of charged dilaton black holes, revealing that at a specific dilaton parameter value, extremal black holes transition into string-like objects, highlighting a link between black holes and string theory.
Contribution
It extends previous work on Schwarzschild black holes to charged dilaton black holes, identifying a unique dilaton parameter where black holes become strings at extremality.
Findings
Black holes transform into strings at a specific dilaton parameter.
The dilaton parameter is determined by unitarity of the S matrix.
The study links black hole extremality to string theory phenomena.
Abstract
We extend a previous calculation which treated Schwarschild black hole horizons as quantum mechanical objects to the case of a charged, dilaton black hole. We show that for a unique value of the dilaton parameter `a', which is determined by the condition of unitarity of the S matrix, black holes transform at the extremal limit into strings.
