SO(3) vortex solutions with or without horizons
Supersymmetric gravitating Yang-Mills solutions in string theory
Abstract
This is a short review of classical solutions with gravitating Yang-Mills fields in spacetime dimensions. The simplest SO(4) symmetric particlelike and SO(3) symmetric vortex type solutions in the Einstein-Yang-Mills theory in D=5 are considered, and their various generalizations with or without an event horizon, for other symmetries, in more general theories, and also in are described. In addition, supersymmetric solutions with gravitating Yang-Mills fields in string theory are discussed.
