Supergravity with Fayet-Iliopoulos terms and R-symmetry
Antoine Van Proeyen

TL;DR
This paper reviews how Fayet-Iliopoulos terms in supergravity theories relate to the gauging of R-symmetry and the role of local symmetries in Kähler and quaternionic-Kähler manifolds.
Contribution
It clarifies the relationship between FI terms, R-symmetry gauging, and local symmetries in supergravity theories.
Findings
FI terms imply gauged R-symmetry in supergravity.
Local symmetries contribute to R-symmetry gauge fields.
The review clarifies relations among these concepts.
Abstract
The simplest examples of gauged supergravities are N=1 or N=2 theories with Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms. FI terms in supergravity imply that the R-symmetry is gauged. Also the U(1) or SU(2) local symmetries of Kaehler and quaternionic-Kaehler manifolds contribute to R-symmetry gauge fields. This short review clarifies the relations.
