Steven S. Gubser, Christopher P. Herzog, Igor R. Klebanov

TL;DR
This paper explores how the warped deformed conifold background in type IIB string theory models the spontaneous breaking of baryon number symmetry, leading to Goldstone bosons and string solutions in the dual gauge theory.
Contribution
It demonstrates the realization of the Goldstone mechanism and the emergence of global and local strings within the warped deformed conifold framework.
Findings
Identification of massless pseudo-scalar and scalar glueballs.
Duality between D-strings and global strings in gauge theory.
Transition from Goldstone to Higgs mechanism upon compactification.
Abstract
The warped deformed conifold background of type IIB theory is dual to the cascading gauge theory. We show that this background realizes the (super-)Goldstone mechanism where the U(1) baryon number symmetry is broken by expectation values of baryonic operators. The resulting massless pseudo-scalar and scalar glueballs are identified in the supergravity spectrum. A D-string is then dual to a global string in the gauge theory. Upon compactification, the Goldstone mechanism turns into the Higgs mechanism, and the global strings turn into ANO strings.
