The black hole final state
Gary T. Horowitz, Juan Maldacena

TL;DR
The paper proposes a final state boundary condition at black hole singularities in quantum gravity, resolving conflicts between string theory and semiclassical views on black hole evaporation's unitarity.
Contribution
It introduces a novel boundary condition at black hole singularities to reconcile quantum gravity with unitarity in black hole evaporation.
Findings
Final state boundary condition ensures unitarity.
Resolves tension between string theory and semiclassical arguments.
Supports consistent quantum description of black hole evaporation.
Abstract
We propose that in quantum gravity one needs to impose a final state boundary condition at black hole singularities. This resolves the apparent contradiction between string theory and semiclassical arguments over whether black hole evaporation is unitary.
