Quasinormal Modes of Near Extremal Black Branes
Andrei O. Starinets

TL;DR
This paper calculates the quasinormal modes of near extremal black branes using the Heun equation, revealing insights into collective excitations in strongly coupled N=4 SYM at finite temperature.
Contribution
It introduces a method to find quasinormal modes of black branes via solving the Heun equation, linking gravitational perturbations to gauge theory excitations.
Findings
Eigenvalues determine dispersion relations of collective modes.
Method applies to near extremal black branes.
Results enhance understanding of strongly coupled gauge theories.
Abstract
We find quasinormal modes of near extremal black branes by solving a singular boundary value problem for the Heun equation. The corresponding eigenvalues determine the dispersion law for the collective excitations in the dual strongly coupled N=4 SYM at finite temperature.
