Comments on duality-symmetric theories
Xavier Bekaert, Sorin Cucu

TL;DR
This paper reviews electric-magnetic duality symmetry, its geometric interpretation in M-theory, and discusses the challenges in extending this symmetry to non-Abelian gauge theories.
Contribution
It provides a concise overview of duality symmetry and highlights the no-go theorems that hinder its extension to non-Abelian cases.
Findings
Duality symmetry has a geometric interpretation in M-theory.
No-go theorems prevent simple extension of duality to non-Abelian theories.
The paper summarizes key obstacles in duality symmetry extension.
Abstract
We briefly review the basics of electric-magnetic duality symmetry and their geometric interpretation in the M-theory context. Then we recall some no-go theorems that prevent a simple extension of the duality symmetry to non-Abelian gauge theories.
