TL;DR
This paper classifies how 't Hooft-Polyakov monopoles can be embedded in general gauge theories, exploring their similarities with vortices and connections to fundamental monopoles.
Contribution
It provides a systematic classification of monopole embeddings using the embedded defect method and relates these to vortices and fundamental monopoles.
Findings
Classification of monopole embeddings in gauge theories
Identification of similarities between monopoles and vortices
Connections established with fundamental monopoles
Abstract
Using the embedded defect method, we classify the possible embeddings of a 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole in a general gauge theory. We then discuss some similarities with embedded vortices and relate our results to fundamental monopoles.
