Wigner's little group, gauge transformations and dimensional descent
Rabin Banerjee, Biswajit Chakraborty

TL;DR
This paper introduces a dimensional descent method demonstrating that Wigner's little group functions as a gauge transformation generator not only in Maxwell theory but also in topologically massive gauge theories like $B ext{ extendash}F$ and Maxwell-Chern-Simons theories.
Contribution
It extends the understanding of Wigner's little group as a gauge generator to topologically massive gauge theories using the dimensional descent technique.
Findings
Wigner's little group acts as a gauge generator in topologically massive theories.
Dimensional descent links massless and massive gauge theories.
Analysis of $B ext{ extendash}F$ and Maxwell-Chern-Simons theories supports this extension.
Abstract
We propose a technique called dimensional descent to show that Wigner's little group for massless particles, which acts as a generator of gauge transformation for usual Maxwell theory, has an identical role even for topologically massive gauge theories. The examples of theory and Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory are analyzed in details.
