TL;DR
This paper investigates how constant electromagnetic fields on coincident D-branes influence their effective worldvolume theory, comparing string theory predictions with effective action results to gain structural insights.
Contribution
It introduces a method to analyze the impact of electromagnetic backgrounds on D-branes and compares theoretical spectra to understand the effective theory better.
Findings
Mass spectrum matches between string theory and effective action.
Electromagnetic backgrounds modify the D-brane worldvolume dynamics.
Insights into the structure of the effective D-brane theory.
Abstract
We probe the effective worldvolume theory of a set of coinciding D-branes by switching on constant electro-magnetic fields on them. The comparison of the mass spectrum predicted by string theory with the mass spectrum obtained from the effective action provides insights in the structure of the effective theory.
