Open Strings, Holography and Stochastic Processes
Mariano Cadoni, Paolo Carta

TL;DR
This paper explores a holographic correspondence between open string states and a one-dimensional stochastic process, linking two conformal field theories with different central charges, and providing a new perspective on string theory and holography.
Contribution
It establishes a novel holographic map between bosonic open strings and a boundary mechanical system interpreted as a stochastic process, connecting two conformal field theories with different central charges.
Findings
Holographic correspondence maps open string states to a stochastic process.
The map relates conformal field theories with central charges c=24 and c=1.
Provides a new interpretation of open string theory in terms of stochastic dynamics.
Abstract
We use the correspondence between string states and local operators on the world-sheet boundary defined by vertex operators in open string theory to put in correspondence, holographically, the bosonic open string with the large N limit of a mechanical system living on the world-sheet boundary. We give a natural interpretation of this system in terms of a one-dimensional stochastic process and show that the correspondence takes the form of a map between two conformal field theories with central charge c=24 and c=1.
