Fundamental Strings as Noncommutative Solitons
Finn Larsen

TL;DR
This paper reviews how closed fundamental strings can be viewed as solitons within open string field theory, using noncommutativity to construct solutions and accurately compute their tension and spectrum.
Contribution
It introduces noncommutativity into open string field theory to explicitly construct and analyze fundamental string solitons, providing exact tension calculations and spectrum recovery.
Findings
Exact tension of string solitons computed
Spectrum matches expected long wavelength behavior
Noncommutativity facilitates explicit soliton construction
Abstract
The interpretation of closed fundamental strings as solitons in open string field theory is reviewed. Noncommutativity is introduced to facilitate an explicit construction. The tension is computed exactly and the correct spectrum is recovered at long wave length.
