TL;DR
This paper reexamines the duality between F-theory on K3 with background B fields and the CHL string in 8 dimensions using string junctions, highlighting new ways 7-brane configurations produce Sp gauge groups.
Contribution
It introduces a string junction perspective to analyze F-theory duality, revealing novel mechanisms for Sp gauge group formation via 7-brane configurations.
Findings
Identification of specific 7-brane setups producing Sp gauge groups
Reinterpretation of F-theory/CHL duality through string junctions
Enhanced understanding of gauge symmetry realization in string theory
Abstract
It has been recently shown that F-theory on K3 with background B fields (NSNS and RR 2-forms) is dual to the CHL string in 8 dimensions. In this paper, we reexamine this duality in terms of string junctions in type IIB string theory. It is in particular stressed that certain 7-brane configurations produce Sp gauge groups in a novel way.
