Large Neutrino Mixing from Small Quark and Lepton Mixings
Guido Altarelli, Ferruccio Feruglio, Isabella Masina

TL;DR
This paper explores models where nearly maximal neutrino mixing arises via the see-saw mechanism, originating from nearly diagonal matrices for charged leptons, Dirac neutrinos, and Majorana right-handed neutrinos.
Contribution
It introduces a class of models demonstrating how small initial mixings can lead to large neutrino mixing through the see-saw mechanism.
Findings
Neutrino mixing can be nearly maximal despite small initial mixings.
The see-saw mechanism can generate large mixing angles from nearly diagonal matrices.
Models are consistent with observed neutrino oscillation data.
Abstract
We discuss the special class of models where nearly maximal neutrino mixing is produced through the see-saw mechanism, starting from only nearly diagonal matrices for charged leptons, Dirac neutrinos and Majorana right-handed neutrinos.
