Partonic structure of the virtual photon
Jiri Chyla, Marek Tasevsky

TL;DR
This paper investigates the partonic structure of virtual photons, demonstrating the usefulness of parton distribution functions in describing their interactions, especially in high-energy collisions like those at HERA.
Contribution
It extends the concept of parton distribution functions to highly virtual photons and explores the role of longitudinal photons in jet cross-section data interpretation.
Findings
Parton distribution functions are phenomenologically useful for virtual photons.
Longitudinal photons significantly impact jet cross-section measurements.
The framework aids in understanding photon interactions in high-energy collisions.
Abstract
Interactions of virtual photons are analyzed in terms of their parton distribution functions. It is shown that the concept of parton distribution functions is phenomenologically very useful even for highly virtual photonds involved in hard collisions. The role of the longitudinal photons for proper interpretation of the data on jet cross--sections in the region of moderate photon virtualities accessible at HERA is explored.
