New Strategies to Extract $\beta$ and $\gamma$ from $B_d\to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $B_s\to K^+ K^-$
Robert Fleischer (CERN)

TL;DR
This paper introduces new methods to extract the CKM angles β and γ from B meson decays, leveraging U-spin symmetry to reduce theoretical uncertainties and improve the precision of CP violation measurements.
Contribution
It presents a general parametrization of CP-violating observables in B decays that is unaffected by penguin and final-state interactions, enhancing the robustness of angle determinations.
Findings
Strategy is unaffected by penguin contributions.
Theoretical accuracy limited mainly by U-spin-breaking effects.
Allows extraction of γ with reduced symmetry assumptions.
Abstract
The decays and are related to each other by interchanging all down and strange quarks, i.e. through the -spin flavour symmetry of strong interactions. A completely general parametrization of the CP-violating observables of these modes is presented within the framework of the Standard Model, allowing the determination of the angles and of the unitarity triangle. This strategy is affected neither by penguin contributions nor by any final-state-interaction effects, and its theoretical accuracy is only limited by -spin-breaking corrections. If the mixing phase is determined separately, for example with the help of , can be extracted with a reduced -spin flavour symmetry input. A variant of this strategy to determine , which uses instead of…
