Charge assignments in multiple-U(1) gauge theories
Will Loinaz, Tatsu Takeuchi (Virginia Tech)

TL;DR
This paper investigates the basis choice in multiple-U(1) gauge theories, identifying a preferred basis where gauge fields remain unmixed during one-loop renormalization group evolution, simplifying theoretical analysis.
Contribution
It introduces a charge orthogonality condition that defines a natural basis in multiple-U(1) theories, ensuring gauge field mixing is avoided under renormalization.
Findings
Preferred basis identified by charge orthogonality
Gauge fields do not mix under one-loop RG in this basis
Simplifies analysis of multiple-U(1) gauge theories
Abstract
We discuss the choice of gauge field basis in multiple-U(1) gauge theories. We find that there is a preferred basis, specified by the charge orthogonality condition, in which the U(1) gauge fields do not mix under one-loop renormalization group running.
