Lattice Investigations of the Running Coupling
Peter Weisz (MPI, Munich)

TL;DR
This paper reviews lattice techniques used to study the running of couplings in gauge theories and discusses current methods for estimating the strong coupling constant at the Z boson mass scale.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive overview of non-perturbative lattice approaches to determine running couplings and their application to estimate _{ ext{MS}}(m_Z).
Findings
Lattice methods effectively study non-perturbative running of couplings.
Current lattice estimates of _{ ext{MS}}(m_Z) are discussed.
The review highlights progress and challenges in lattice QCD calculations.
Abstract
A review of investigations of running couplings using lattice techniques is given. This includes i) studies of the running of particular non-perturbatively defined renormalized couplings in pure gauge theories over a range of energies, and ii) how estimates of in lattice QCD are presently obtained.
