Heat Bath Efficiency with Metropolis-Type Updating
Alexei Bazavov, Bernd A. Berg

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates that a biased Metropolis scheme can effectively replace the heat bath algorithm in 4D SU(2) and U(1) lattice gauge theories, especially when the heat bath is unavailable.
Contribution
It shows that biased Metropolis sampling is equivalent to heat bath methods and extends applicability to cases lacking efficient heat bath algorithms.
Findings
Biased Metropolis sampling matches heat bath efficiency in tested theories.
The method is applicable when heat bath algorithms are not available.
Provides a versatile alternative for lattice gauge theory simulations.
Abstract
We illustrate for 4D SU(2) and U(1) lattice gauge theory that sampling with a biased Metropolis scheme is essentially equivalent to using the heat bath algorithm. Only, the biased Metropolis method can also be applied when an efficient heat bath algorithm does not exist.
