TL;DR
This paper investigates static three- and four-quark potentials in SU(3) and SU(4), using a variational approach to test different models for baryonic string behavior, and finds support for the eltansatz.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed comparison of the eltansatz and Y-ansatz for baryonic potentials in SU(3) and SU(4).
Findings
Results favor the eltansatz over the Y-ansatz.
Accurate determination of the ground state of the baryonic string.
Supports the sum of two-body terms as the potential model.
Abstract
We present results for the static three- and four-quark potentials in SU(3) and SU(4) respectively. Using a variational approach, combined with multi-hit for the time-like links, we determine the ground state of the baryonic string with sufficient accuracy to test the and ans\"atze for the baryonic Wilson area law. Our results favor the ansatz, where the potential is the sum of two-body terms.
