Ph. de Forcrand (ETH, CERN), M. Pepe (ETH)

TL;DR
This paper explores the relationship between gauge singularities in Laplacian gauge and topological charge, enabling the study of instantons without cooling, and introduces a specific Laplacian gauge-fixing method for SU(N).
Contribution
It establishes a link between gauge singularities and topological charge and presents a new Laplacian gauge-fixing technique for SU(N).
Findings
Connection between gauge singularities and topological charge demonstrated.
Method for studying instantons without cooling proposed.
Laplacian gauge-fixing procedure for SU(N) described.
Abstract
We exhibit the connection between local gauge singularities in the Laplacian gauge and topological charge, which opens the possibility of studying instanton excitations without cooling. We describe our version of Laplacian gauge-fixing for SU(N).
