Study of the Photonuclear interaction of muons in rock with the MACRO experiment
E. Scapparone (for the MACRO Collaboration)

TL;DR
This paper reports initial measurements of charged hadron production by atmospheric muons in rock, comparing observed rates with Monte Carlo simulations to understand muon interactions underground.
Contribution
First measurement of muon-induced charged hadron production in rock with MACRO, providing data to validate interaction models.
Findings
Measured muon-induced charged hadron production rate.
Comparison shows agreement/discrepancy with Monte Carlo expectations.
Provides data for refining muon interaction models.
Abstract
We present first results about the measurement of the charged hadrons production by atmopsheric muons in the rock above MACRO. A comparison between the measurerate with the Monte Carlo expectation is presented.
