On the Kinematic Reconstruction of $e^+e^-\to W^+W^-\to jj\tau\overline{\nu}_\tau$\ Events
R.Rylko (London)

TL;DR
The paper introduces a hybrid kinematic reconstruction method for $e^+e^- o W^+W^- o jj\tau\bar{ u}_\tau$ events that resolves ambiguities by combining measured angles and energy-momentum constraints, improving reconstruction accuracy.
Contribution
A novel hybrid reconstruction technique that reduces ambiguity in tau event reconstruction by leveraging angular measurements and energy-momentum conservation.
Findings
The method provides a unique solution for tau momentum at LEP II and NLC.
Reconstruction accuracy is improved compared to previous methods.
The approach is applicable to similar semi-invisible decay processes.
Abstract
We show that the kinematic reconstruction of the \ events have a one-parameter ambiguity when reconstructed from the momentum of all measured \ decay products. We propose a {\em hybrid} method of reconstruction of the \ events. This is based on the observation that the difference between the \ production angles and the production angles of the sum of its visible decay products is small, whilst the \ energy is poorly reconstructed. This method consists of taking the \ production angles from those measured for the sum of the visible \ decay products and reconstructing the \ energy from energy-momentum conservation constraints. A reconstruction using this method is found to be well-defined and possess a unique…
